Firefighters Battle Deadly House Fire

Wednesday May 7 around 4:30 pm Mt. Olive Fire units were dispatched to Flanders Drakestown Rd. for a house fire Upon arrival of Car 50 and 51 there was heavy smoke coming from the front of the house and cars in the driveway as Squad 56 pulled up the fire advanced through the roof of the two story house and firefighters were unable to enter the house and check for any victims. Engines 59, 95 and Tower 96 pulled in and assisted in knocking down the fire and crews then entered the house and found a male victim on the first floor sadly he was pronounced dead on the scene. Several mutual aide fire and first aid squads were on the scene as well assisting. There were no injuries on the scene and crews remained on the scene with the Morris County Prosecutors Office and Mt. Olive Police till 11:30 at night.
Chester, Netcong, Schooleys Mt., Roxbury, Stanhope, Long Valley, Morris County O.E.M. and Budd Lake Ladies Aux. assisted with the fire as well.
