Budd Lake Graduates Two From Warren County

Saturday May 15th 2010 23 Firefighters from departments all over Warren County and 2 from Morris County graduated the Firefighter One program after enduring months of classroom and practical training exercises in burn building covering everything from ladders, haz-mat, ems, hose lines, search and rescue to name a few. This class marked the first outside graduation the academy ever held and the weather was perfect as the sun shinned down on the graduates and their families. The class president presented the instructors with tee shirt and a plaque for their tireless teaching and guidance. Budd Lake firefighter Jon Olszowy received the academic achievement award for having the best score on the test. All had a great time.      

Budd Lake Assists Roxbury On Rt. 80

Wednesday afternoon Roxbury Township fire companies one two and three were dispatched to Rt. 80 West at mm 28.2 just after exit 28 for a motor vehicle crash with a truck on fire. Chief one arrived to find a tractor-trailer had crashed into a New Jersey State Department of Transportation Dump Truck and was on fire also a car was flipped over on the highway as well. The Chief quickly called for the Budd Lake Fire and Mt. Arlington Fire Companies to respond with there Tender’s for extra water. Crews from Roxbury Co. 1and 2 stretched two hand lines and had the fire knocked down in fifteen minuets but overhaul lasted abought an hour. A hazmat company was also on scene to assist with cleaning up abought 50 gallons of diesel fuel that leaked from the tractor. Only one injury was reported at the scene and the highway was reopened around 4:00 pm.

The firefighters worked hard for two weeks on the newest engine 59 washing, waxing, cleaning and polishing the truck for judging. But the competition was good and the truck did not win a trophy but the 25 members that marched won a second place marching trophy and the Ladies aux. won best appearing Ladies aux. The whole day was a success and a good day was had by all.
