Firefighters Assist In Mud Run Setup

Budd Lake, Chester and Byram Firefighters used Tenders and hoses to fill the mud pits. The next day Flanders and Budd Lake were on hand to keep the mud flowing and assist all that participated with hosing them off after the run. A fun time was had by all.  

State Police Car Overturns In Budd Lake

Firefighters responded to Rt. 46 at Mount Olive Rd. for a report of an overturned car into a pole. Car 51 arrived and found a New Jersey State Police car on its roof the officer was removed from the car by bystanders and was taken to a local hospital by Atlantic EMS with minor injuries. Squad 56, 50 and 51 stood by for the tow company and the power company. The road was closed for several hours as crews replaced the pole. The crash is under investigation by the State Police.

Brush Fire On Railroad Tracks

Almost at the end of the commuting day train service was halted in the trade zone train station due to a brush fire. The fire was a couple hundred yards from the station Squad 56 and Brush 98 from Flanders quickly put out the 25 x 50-yard fire that was properly started by a freight train that had passed by earlier. The tracks were reopened within a half hour.   

Firefighters Train With Other County Fire Companies

Sunday June 4th firefighters from several companies participated in a group drill using Morris County’s Class A burn building as well as the car fire simulator. Crews took turns rotating through live fire drills and the car fire simulator. Budd Lake, Randolph, Chester, Schooley’s Mountain, Netcong and Mendham Bro. Fire Companies were all on hand and had a great time lunch was provided by Fire Fighter One Fire Equipment.    

3 Car Crash Closes Rt. 46

Firefighters were call again to route 46 this time at cove street for a 3-car crash with rollover. Car 50 and 51 arrived and had 2 cars and a minivan that crashed within a quarter mile span, Squad 56 came in and started to help with the victims and cleanup. Budd Lake, Flanders and Atlantic EMS checked and transported 4 people to an area hospital Flanders Rescue 97 was diverted to answer a fire alarm call and the returned to the scene and assisted with cleanup.        

Brush Fire On The Interstate

Firefighters were recently dispatched to Rt. 80 west for a brush fire Cars 50 and 52 arrived and found 2 separate fire each 10 foot by 15 feet. Engine 59 arrived and stretched a 1 inch line and quickly extinguished the fire. There was a report of a third fire 3 miles up the road Car 50 investigated that fire and it was almost out Allamuchy Fire took this fire and all units returned within a half hour.    

Firefighters Train On Large Hose

Budd Lake firefighters kept up training this week by going to the international trade zone and practicing on large diameter hose and big water appliances. Crews took turns learning abought master streams and ladder pipe operations while flowing a large amount of water and the different ways of delivering that water. Firefighters train twice a month to keep their skills sharp.       

2 Crashes On Interstate 80

During a heavy rain storm Mount Olive Firefighters were dispatched to Route 80 east at mile marker 22.4 for a report of 2 motor vehicle crashes. Car 90, 50 and 51 arrived and found 2 cars crashed at one location and a tractor trailer and a car a quarter mile down the highway. Rescue 97 took the first crash and had to extricate 2 people from the first crash while Squad 56 and Car 51 took the second crash. Ambulances from Atlantic Health System, Flanders Fire and Allamunchy Green treated 10 people from both crashes and transported 9 people to area hospital’s. The State Police reopened the highway within an hour.     

Car Fire On Spring Street

Firefighter recently were called to the corner of spring street and Sandshore Rd. for a report of a fire on the side of a house then the dispatcher reported a possible car accident with fire. Car 50 arrived along with police and found just a car on the grass fully involved in fire. Engine 59 and Rescue 97 arrived and stretched and inch and three quarter line and had the fire out within fifteen minutes. The fire in under investigation by the police and fire marshal’s office there were no injuries at the scene.
