Firefighters Respond To A Motor Vehicle Crash On Rt. 46

On Sunday July 31st Budd Lake Firefighters and First Aiders responded to the top of Hackettstown Mountain on Rt. 46 by Sandshore Rd. for a three car crash. Responders took one person to the hospital and three others refused medical treatment. Firefighters cleaned up the road and the highway was open within a half hour.

Firefighters Train On Using Saws

Budd Lake Firefighters trained on the use and care of rescue saws as part of the training drills. This drill focused on cutting car hoods, concrete and steel firefighters took turns cutting and chaining blades and the different technics used in the different situations set up by the officers.  

Budd Lake Assists Flanders In Rt. 206 Fire

Saturday August 6th just before 10 am the Flanders Fire Co. was alerted for smoke coming from 213 Rt. 206 as Police arrived and confirmed heavy smoke from the rear of the building Car 90 Chief Widzemok called for a second alarm. After a quick assessment of the rear of the building by the next in Chief it was found to be a large outside pile of old hot tubs and a fork lift on fire. Command scaled back the assignment to a township general using Flanders and Budd Lake Fire units. Engine companies 95, 59 and Squad 56 stretched an inch and three quarter line on the fire and knocked it down within fifteen minutes as crews went inside to check for extension. The fire was held to the outside with damage to the siding and garage doors. The fire is under investigation by the Mt. Olive Police and Fire Marshal’s Office. 

Morning Gas Leak Shuts Down Rt. 46

Friday morning August 12th around 9:00 am the fire department responded to Rt. 46 and Smithtown Rd. for a report of a gas line struck by a contractor. Crews arrived and started to shut down rt. 46, Smithtown and Wolf roads as well as evacuating the Equity Plaza shopping mall and Engine 53 stretched a hose line as a precaution. The contractor struck a 4 “gas line while digging for some traffic light work Elizabethtown Gas was notified and they had the gas shut down within an hour. The Morris county Haz-Mat crews were also on hand to monitor the air in the area. The highway was reopened in an hour and a half.

All we ask is that you stay safe at home and off the roads.


A shelter will be set up if needed that will be open only if the need arises. It would be Mt. Olive High School. Hurricane Irene is still approaching New Jersey please use the good morning weather today to prepare your home for Saturday night and Sunday.

Make sure your basement sump pumps are in working order,check and fuel your generator, close all windows and doors. Secure all outside furniture and loose items. Make sure you have a proper supply of your medications, food, bottled water, and batteries.
